Rich Media

Rich Media is the combination of media elements such as text, graphics, video, sound and animation into one single electronic presentation system. It has been known by many names such as New Media and Multimedia and in reality also encompasses internet and digital signage.

The main thing that differentiates Rich Media is the removal of the restrictions on content size and quality that can affect the viewing experience of a web based solution. Often delivered on DVD/CD or installed directly onto a static computer, the specification of the destination platform is defined before development. This means that the final solution is optimised to work effectively on the target machine without having to consider the lowest common denominator.

Without bandwidth considerations or size of stored content, it is possible to include full screen high definition video or high quality interactive 3D environments, complete catalogues of data can be held rather than snippets and complex search facilities can be dramatically more efficient.

If there is a requirement for regularly updated information, live data can be called directly from the internet while still presenting it in a rich environment.
